UNESCO Representative delivers a special lecture on SDGs to university students in Timor-Leste

Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Office in Jakarta and the UNESCO Representative to Timor-Leste, delivered a special lecture on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e (National University of Timor-Leste).

The special lecture was held as a part of the joint lectures by the UN Agencies in Timor-Leste, to raise the awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals among the university students in Timor-Leste. This was the first lecture to be delivered in year 2018, with a particular focus on the Goal 6 “Clean water and sanitation”.

Prof. Khan highlighted the need of UN and the mandate of UNESCO, emphasizing the importance of intercultural dialogue. He introduced a number of UNESCO Programmes and activities, especially on water and environment.  More than hundred students, from the Faculties of Agriculture, Exact Science, Engineering, Science, and Technology of Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e, were excited on the lecture, with a proactive interaction in the Q&A session.
