UNESCO Venice Office supports regional ministerial platform on culture and development in South-East Europe
On 13 December 2013, a special meeting of experts representing Ministries of culture from Member States of South-East Europe (SEE) will take place in Skopje, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, organised by the Ministry of Culture and the National Commission for UNESCO, with the support of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice (Italy).
The event will serve to discuss and pave the way for the effective implementation of the decision taken during the Annual Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Culture of South-Eastern Europe (CoMoCoSEE) held in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, on 9 April 2013, concerning the establishment of a new, unified regional cooperation platform on culture at ministerial level, under the title “Council of Ministers of Culture of South-East Europe – Enhancing Culture for Sustainable Development”.
Participants in this special meeting will be senior officials in representation of the ministries of culture of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Turkey. Representatives of the Ministries of culture of Austria and Italy, as well as of UNESCO, will also attend the meeting as observers.
The meeting will also serve to start the preparatory work for the organization of the first conference within this new ministerial platform, to be hosted by The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in spring 2014, and in particular for the preparation of an Action Plan for the enhancement of regional cooperation in the field of culture to be proposed for approval by the conference.
The event is organized within the overall framework of UNESCO’s global initiative “Culture: A Bridge to Development”.
