New project to assess inclusiveness of public policies in Senegal
A workshop to launch a project to assess the level of inclusiveness, including a gender dimension, of public policies in Senegal will take place on 24 and 25 June 2013 at UNESCO’s Regional Office in Dakar.
The workshop is included in the assessment project of the level of inclusiveness of public policies in three countries of the Sahel region and is funded by UNESCO’s emergency fund. Similar workshops have been held in Ouagadougou for Burkina Faso and Niamey for Niger.
It is organized by UNESCO Dakar’s Social and Human Sciences Sector in partnership with the National Senegalese Commission for UNESCO. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 12am on 24 June under the presidency of the Health and Social Action’s Minister, Mrs Eva Marie Coll Seck.
Participants at the meeting include the multidisciplinary team of consultants working on the project, public decision-makers, representatives of civil society organizations and researchers.
This workshop have five objectives:
- Stakeholders, at a national level, take ownership of the assessment process by agreeing to, and amend if necessary, the terms of references and the methodology proposed;
- Consensus on the right methods in place to guarantee the participative approach of the assessment’s process;
- Main steps established to prepare a study on the inclusiveness of public policies and of the policy brief including lessons learned and recommendations of the workshop for its application;
- The establishment of a Council Committee to advise the process.
The assessment of the level of inclusiveness of public policies seeks to promote harmonized national policies and regulatory frameworks that are conducive to inclusive societies and guarantee more equal opportunities for all.
Building inclusive societies has been identified as a priority and a long-term commitment by the international community and particularly by UNESCO, which has made it one of the priority themes of its Management of Social Transformations (MOST) program for 2012-2013.
