Workshop to promote gender equality in the media in Senegal
UNESCO’s Regional Office is organizing a capacity-building workshop to promote gender equality indicators in RTS, the official radio and television station in Senegal. The workshop will take place on 25-27 September 2013.
RTS journalists and other personnel, as well as specialists on gender issues will get together to consider policies related to gender in RTS. The aim is to develop a strategy and a programme to promote gender equality in the radio and television station. Participants also will discuss a strategy to promote gender equality in the media in Senegal in general.
This activity is part of UNESCO’s project entitled Gender indicators in the media that aims to contribute to social development through the promotion of equality between women and men who share the same professional environment. It also aims at improving the image of women in the media. The UNESCO project funded by the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and covers seven countries, namely Algeria, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Kenya, Namibia and Senegal.
The press is invited to cover the opening ceremony on 25 September 2013 at 9.30 am at the UNESCO Dakar Office. The workshop will be opened by His Excellency Bamba Dieye, Minister of Communications and the Digital Economy together with the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Dakar, Ann Therese Ndong-Jatta, the Executive Secretary of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and Mr. Racine Talla, CEO of RTS.
