2012 World AIDS Day Campaign: Outcomes
World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
To mark World AIDS Day 2012, dance4life project (Russia), the UNESCO Office in Moscow and UNAIDS Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as a part of the regional project "Prevention ONLINE" activities, ran a photo/card contest for young people, aiming at promotion HIV-related stigma and discrimination prevention and to support people living with HIV, their friends and relatives.
More than 50 works calling for solidarity with people living with HIV were received. The winners of the contest were chosen through online voting and awarded special prizes.
Several popular youth communities (a total number of participants - 3,390,780) in social media (Facebook and VK.com) kindly agreed to post best cards and photos, as well as infografics containing brief information on HIV prevention and a video-clip "HIV infection: the history of the struggle for the right to life", which was filmed by dance4life project team on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2012.
The Russian version of MSN.com also posted a collection of photos/cards at the front page of the News section. The tags under the cards reminded about 3 Zeros and Education as a starting point to get there and provided links to websites for young people with correct and age specific information about health, sexuality and HIV prevention.
