A Regional Forum “Gender Equality as a Millennium Value”
On 5-7 December 2012 the UNESCO Moscow Office in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair on Culture of Peace and Democracy at the Russian State University for the Humanities and Council for Consolidation of Women’s Movement organize a Regional Forum “Gender Equality as a Millennium Value”. The Forum shall become a platform for research-policy dialogues on gender equality in the context of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the post-2015 framework, as well as wider regional gender equality related issues.
The agenda of the Forum will include an experts’ roundtable with participation of national and international specialists in gender equality from the CIS and Eastern Europe countries. The roundtable entitled “Gender Equality: Regional Specific Features on the Post-Soviet Area. Examining Status and Defining Tasks” will be held on 5-6 December 2012 in the Cultural and Educational Centre “Etnomir”, Kaluga region, Russia.
The experts’ roundtable will be focused on a common discussion on such issues as gender equality, women's empowerment, respect of human rights for women and girls, their full participation in the political, economic and social life of the Region, including women with disabilities, indigenous women and women migrants, etc. The roundtable’s agenda will also include a brainstorming on a post-2015 scenario that could be appropriate for the Region.
On 7 December 2012 a Regional Conference “The Value of Gender Equality in the Post-Soviet Space in a Comparative Perspective” aimed at national and international specialists in gender equality, representatives of the international organizations, academic community, governmental institutions, intergovernmental organizations, etc. will take place in Moscow in the in the premises of the Russian State University for the Humanities.
In accordance with the Forum outcomes a Resolution will be elaborated.
