Agreement on cooperation in the field of arts education signed between UNESCO and IFESCCO
On 12 October 2009 a ceremony of signing of the Agreement between UNESCO and IFESCCO on cooperation for the implementation of the long-term Project “Arts education in CIS countries: building creative capacities for the 21st century” took place.
The project envisages the conduction of case studies in the field of arts education (including the analysis of existing system of arts education and current programmes and development trends) in order to improve the arts education system in the CIS countries and include UNESCO priorities and principles into the National Strategies for development the arts education field. The analytical studies will be conducted on the basis of the UNESCO document “Road Map for Arts Education” and the Final Questionnaire on its implementation, which include recommendations elaborated within the 1st World Conference on Arts Education, which took place in March 2006 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The general aim of the project is fostering the implementation of the UNESCO’S programme
related to arts education which foresees, in particular, acknowledgement the value of arts education in promoting creativity and innovation, as well as cultural diversity.
Within the frames of the Project it is foreseen to prepare relevant analytical reports and elaborate recommendations on development of existing systems of arts education in the CIS countries related to all fields of formal and informal arts education. Upon the conduction of the studies the “Web-Observatory of Arts Education” of CIS Member States will be created.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Dendev Badarch, Director of the UNESCO Moscow Office, UNESCO Representative in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, and Ms Svetlana Teryohina, Head of the Department for Humanitarian Politics of IFESCCO. Both parties have stated the importance of cooperation developing in the field of arts education in the CIS countries. Ms Liubava Moreva, Programme Specialist for Culture of the UNESCO Moscow Office, and Ms Yanina Podol, Programme Assistant for Culture of the UNESCO Moscow Office, have also participated in the ceremony.

The Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO) was established in 2006 by the governments of 7 country members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Presently the members of IFESCCO are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The mission of IFESCCO as a specialized organization of humanitarian cooperation within CIS is to contribute to the development of the CIS’s common humanitarian space, to the sustainable development and intercultural dialogue by means of education, science, culture, communications, information, archives, sports, tourism, youth work.
