Analytical Report on Arts Education in Ukraine
Within the framework of the UNESCO/IFESCCO long-term project «Arts Education in CIS Countries: Building Creative Capacities for the 21st Century» a new Analytical Report “Arts Education in Ukraine: Building Creative Capacities for the 21st Century” was prepared by the Institute of Educational Problems of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine with the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office.
The interdisciplinary study on existing system, current programmes and development trends of arts education and education through arts in Ukraine was conducted by the leading national experts in consultation with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO with due account for the “Road Map for Arts Education” adopted at the First World Conference on Art Education (Lisbon, 2006) and the “Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education» (the Second World Conference on Arts Education, Seoul, 2010). The study of arts education in Ukraine was conducted as well with consideration of the ideas and principles of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) and the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005), and designed to preserve and promote cultural diversity for dialogue, social cohesion and sustainable development.
The undertaken study and analytical report as its result are designed to describe the state of arts education in Ukraine and more vividly define the ways of its improvement over the longer term based on interdepartmental interaction of all governmental and civic institutions concerned for the sake of further fruitful development of national culture. In the Analytical Report and its recommendations special attention is paid at correspondence of the content of education to the demands of a present-day socio-cultural situation, ensuring continuity of education at different levels of the education system. Improvement of arts education quality is connected, on the one hand, with availability of an extensive network of educational institutions and organizations whose activities aim at solving the foregoing tasks and provide access to education of various strata for the population and, on the other hand, – with improvement of the content and methods of teaching arts subjects at different educational establishments, as well as of training and retraining staff for this educational sphere.
The Analytical Report “Arts Education in Ukraine: Building Creative Capacities for the 21st Century” published in Ukrainian, Russian and English languages and distributed to the main stakeholders. The e-version of the publication is available on the UNESCO website.
