International Youth Festival of Cultural Diversity “Following Friendship Roads”

The International Youth Festival of Cultural Diversity “Following Friendship Roads” will be held in the Republic of Khakassia, Russian Federation in the framework of celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the World Day for Culture Diversity, Dialogue and Development on 21 May 2012 under the motto “LIVING TOGETHER HARMONIOUSLY”. The Festival is arranging by the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies and Social Issues of the Novosibirsk National Research State University in partnership with the UNESCO Office in Moscow and with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Russia.

The Festival events will gather hundreds of participants, including local communities, representatives of cultural, educational and governmental institutions. The Festival will also involve women and youth into the process of celebrating 10th  Anniversary of the International Day for Cultural Diversity from  over 15 regions, including the Republic of Khakassia, the Republic of Mordovia, the Republic of Udmurtia, the Republic of Altai, the Novosibirsk Region, the Chukot Autonomous Area, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and other.  Representatives from different regions of Russia will take part in such events, as folklore celebration with traditional songs and dances, master-classes on traditional arts and crafts, competitions and presentation of traditional celebrations of peoples of these regions.

This Festival will contribute to the effective implementation of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and will also promote the principles of the UNESCO  2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and 2003 Convention for the  Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, through promoting the diversity of cultural expressions, encouraging dialogue among all types of Siberian cultures and fostering cultural interaction in the spirit of building bridges and best practices exchange among all peoples of regions invited to participate in the Festival.
