“HIV and AIDS: What can we do about this?”
A new book from the Children’s project “Other, Others, Otherwise” led by the well-known Russian writer Ms Lyudmila Ulitskaya has been just published.
The UNESCO Moscow Office, the Charity Foundation “Tolerance Institute” and the M.I.Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature continue cooperation promoting the ideas of tolerance. The main goal of this year project is to strengthen HIV responses targeting young people with a particular aim of reducing stigma and discrimination.
The book “HIV and AIDS: WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?” by K. Spirikin written upon UNESCO request aims to raise awareness on HIV&AIDS and to prevent HIV related discrimination among teenagers and their parents. The book differs from the other books of the Children’s project “Other, Others, Otherwise” led by the well-known Russian writer Ms Lyudmila Ulitskaya. The series created for children aged 10–13 promotes the tolerance and non-discrimination. UNESСO supports the translation of the books into English and their dissemination among European libraries as the best practice example.
The project also includes the training-seminars for school teachers and children libraries workers which will be organized in October-November 2009 in Valentinovka (Moscow region). The main goal of the seminars are to raise awareness on the new methodic of HIV prevention education and to train the participants on how to work with the book as a tool for HIV prevention education as well as education for human rights and fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination.
