23 April World Book and Copyright Day

Every year UNESCO and its partners celebrate World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April. We invite the international community to rally around books and those who produce them to share knowledge and tell stories.

Since its adoption, this day has been a true success: millions of people, institutions, book professionals have organized or participated to events such as conferences, workshops, debates, literary award ceremonies and artistic performances in more than hundred different countries.

Once more this year, many activities will be held at UNESCO headquarters and in UNESCO Field Offices around the world in order to share our love for books in an instructive and entertaining way.

The 23rd of April will also open Incheon’s (Republic of Korea) mandate as 2015 World Book Capital City, a title that will be celebrated with participants from the previous title-holder, Port Harcourt (Nigeria) in a handover ceremony.

To give an international dimension to the celebration, an interactive map highlights events organized by librarians, booksellers, publishers and associations around the world, at https://wbcd2015.crowdmap.com .
