National capacity-building training for museum specialists from Azerbaijan “Running a Museum”
During 20 – 22 April 2009 the National capacity-building Training on Modern Museum Management for museum specialists of Azerbaijan based on the UNESCO/ICOM Museum Training Package is conducted in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Training is conducted with the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office within the Agreement between UNESCO and Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO) on contribution to the capacity building of the museums in the CIS countries. The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Museum of Independence of Azerbaijan and the Museum Centre of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The National capacity-building Training is conducted upon the results of the UNESCO/ICOM Regional Training Workshop “Running a Museum”, which was conducted on 29 June – 6 July 2008 in St. Petersburg with participation of museum specialists from Azerbaijan. The programme of the Training includes such issues important for the museum field, as: creation of new expositions, implementation of new educational programs, safety and security system in the museums, fighting against illegal export of cultural values, museums financing, protection of cultural objects in accordance with the strategic activities of UNESCO, and other.
In the course of the Training the participants will diagnose and form different special topics and problems of museums’ development in different regions of the country, thus letting the authorities and different foundations organize their work on support and development of culture in these regions more effectively.
The representatives of 33 regions of Azerbaijan will take part in the Training. After the Training the participants will be able to conduct such trainings for museum professionals in their respective regions.
The Training will be followed by the National capacity-building Trainings in Armenia (Yerevan, 10-14 June, 2009), Belarus (Minsk, 26-28 May, 2009), the Republic of Moldova (Chisinau, 11-16 May, 2009) and the Russian Federation (Kazan, 7-10 September, 2009). Upon the conduction of the series of the National capacity-building Trainings the presentational publication will be issued, containing the detailed information and the results of the conducted events.
