New Publication on Culture, Arts and Creativity in Response to HIV and AIDS

Within the frameworks of a pilot project of UNESCO Moscow Office “Contemporary Arts in Response to HIV and AIDS” the Analytical Research “Culture, Arts and Creativity in Response to HIV and AIDS” was published in partnership with the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.

Within the frameworks of a pilot project of UNESCO Moscow Office “Contemporary Arts in Response to HIV and AIDS” the Analytical Research “Culture, Arts and Creativity in Response to HIV and AIDS” was published in partnership with the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.

The analytical research was made with the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office by a team of researchers of the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts with participation of experts from the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Moldova and under consulting with UNAIDS representatives in Belarus, Moldova and Russia. The publication deals with socio-cultural factors and main directions of prevention of HIV and AIDS using means of culture and arts.

Practical recommendations are also given and methodological principles of HIV expansion prevention through mobilization of cultural, art and creative resources are offered, presenting the experience of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation. In particular, analysis of the current situation in mentioned countries is conducted and results of the implemented projects in this field are presented, such as master-classes on social advertising on fighting HIV and AIDS, as well as creative competition among young professionals from creative institutes.

The subject of the competition was socio-cultural activity in HIV and AIDS preventing. The publication is a result of a UNESCO complex pilot project “Contemporary Arts in Response to HIV and AIDS”, aiming at:

  • Mobilization of the young creative professionals for attraction of public attention towards the HIV and AIDS issues;
  • Increasing awareness of HIV and AIDS preventing issues among the young creative professionals, through their participation in the development of innovative creative and artistic works dedicated to the HIV and AIDS issues;
  • Fostering responsible attitude of young people towards the issues of HIV prevention;
  • Cultivating tolerance towards people leaving with HIV and AIDS.
  • Widening of new artistic toolkit for the purposes of the HIV prevention campaigns.

The publication includes a DVD with wide information about the implemented project and UNESCO strategy concerning HIV and AIDS and available in Russian and English languages.
