New UNESCO publication “Running a Museum - XXI century”
Within the frames of the long-term project on UNESCO/ICOM regional/national trainings “Running a Museum” for the CIS countries and with the financial support of the UNESCO Office in Moscow and Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation in March 2009 was issued the Presentational Booklet with the DVD “Running a Museum - XXI century”.
The publication presents in Russian and English the information on the UNESCO Museum Studies Program as well as materials and elaborations of the UNESCO/ICOM Regional Training “Running a Museum”, which took place in St. Petersburg on June 29 – July 6, 2008 within the agreement between UNESCO and Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation on cooperation within museum field on the CIS’s common humanitarian space.
UNESCO/ICOM Museum Studies Training Package “Running a Museum” and the booklets series “Cultural Heritage Protection Handbooks” is supplemented in the publication “RUNNING a MUSEUM – XXI CENTURY” with legislation documents of the CIS countries, internationals conventions and acts in the field of museums and protection of cultural heritage, with the elaborations of the specialists of Russian museums and examples of their day-to-day activities: The State Hermitage Museum, the Russian Museum, the Russian Museum of Ethnography and Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The current publication contains diverse information on museums of the CIS countries, on facilitators, experts and participants of the UNESCO/ICOM Regional Training “Running a Museum” as well as lectures, presentations, methodological elaborations and recommendations to be used for the development and conducting of the national trainings of museum personnel in the CIS countries.
Publication is designed for museum personnel and for specialists working in the sphere of cultural heritage protection, as well as for anyone interested in the development of museum field in the CIS countries. It is a unique practical tool to wide the opportunities for development and conducting of professional trainings for museum personnel on regional and national levels in the CIS countries, which now have the key meaning for museum capacity-building. On the basis of the UNESCO/ICOM Regional Training a series of UNESCO national trainings for museum professionals will be arranged in 2009 for the CIS countries under organizational and financial support of UNESCO Office in Moscow and the Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation.
The effective use and dissemination of the materials and elaborations of the UNESCO/ICOM Regional Training, which are presented within the publication “Running a Museum – XXI century”, enables to increase capacity of museum professionals in museum management and protection of cultural heritage, to reinforce museum networking among museum specialists in the CIS countries, to promote on international level the cultural heritage of the CIS countries and to form the open communication environment in the field of research and protection of cultural heritage.
