Regional Thematic Training for museum specialists and the Expert meeting will be conducted in Saint-Petersburg
The Regional UNESCO/ICOM Thematic Training for museum professionals from CIS countries “New Information and Communication Technologies for Museum Development” and the Second Expert Meeting “Actual Issues of Museology and Practice of Museum Management in XXI Century” will be held from 15 to 18 November 2013 in Saint Petersburg, the Russian Federation, in the framework of the UNESCO/IFESCCO Pilot Project “Running a Museum – XXI Century: Thematic Regional Capacity-building UNESCO/ICOM Trainings and Expert Meetings for CIS countries”.
The Training for museum specialists from CIS countries is based on the UNESCO/ICOM Museum Studies Training Package issued within the UNESCO/ IFESCCO project for museum specialists in 2010.
The events are organized by UNESCO Office in Moscow, Russian Committee of International Council of Museums (ICOM Russia) and the State Hermitage Museum, in cooperation with UNESCO Office in Almaty and Tashkent.
The main objective of the training is to raise awareness of cultural diversity and economic entrepreneurship in local handicrafts, cultural industries and cultural tourism; provide trainers with necessary knowledge and skills to conduct national trainings based on the UNESCO/ICOM Museum Studies Training Package in their respective countries, as well as reinforce museum networking and museum-to-museum partnership in CIS countries and contribute to the development of museum field in CIS countries in line with international experience. The Regional UNESCO/ICOM Thematic Training will accord a special attention to the subject of “Development of Museum Legislation as a Basis for National and International Museum Policy and a Factor for Museum Practice Development”.
About 30 museum specialists from the CIS countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan will be involved in the event as trainers.
Within the training and the expert meeting a special session will be dedicated to the subject of “Development of Museum Legislation as a Basis for National and International Museum Policy and a Factor for Museum Practice Development”.
The Regional Thematic Museum Training “New Information and Communication Technologies for Museum Development” and the Second Expert Meeting “Actual Issues of Museology and Practice of Museum Management in XXI Century” are aimed at achieving general goals of the UNESCO/IFESCCO project, including strengthening the role of museums as social, educational and economic actors and increasing capacity of museum professionals in CIS countries in safeguarding the heritage, raising of capacity of museum professionals in the CIS countries in museum management, highlighting of educational role of museums to attract new public, improving the place of museums in sustainable tourism development, taking it as a vector for economic development.
In the framework of the training, expert meeting and special session three policy briefs and a package of basic recommendations focus on topics marked below will be prepared.
The materials of the Training and Expert Meeting will be published in the electronic version and placed for free access on the UNESCO and ICOM Russia web-sites.
