Within the activities aimed at facilitating study and universal access to the world documentary heritage, the electronic recourse “The Book Collection of the Sapieha family” was prepared by the National Library of Belarus with support of the UNESCO Moscow Office.

The concept of virtual reconstruction of a book collection represents a new direction of contemporary archeography and bibliology, which enables to preserve and grant access to the rich book heritage of the Sapieha family, one of the most prominent magnate families in the Belarusian history that had a strong influence on the cultural development of the country.

This electronic recourse includes scientific and bibliographic description and digital copies of 303 documents (archival documents, engravings, printed books) including 53 full-text electronic copies of documents and most valuable and unique books of the 17th–19th centuries from the National Library of Belarus and the Russian National Library

Presentation of the electronic publication will be timed to coincide with the grand opening of the restored buildings of the Sapiehas’ palace ensemble in Ruzhany (Republic of Belarus, Pruzhany district), which is scheduled for May 2011.
