UNESCO Bioethics Core Curriculum is now available in Russian
With the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office «UNESCO Bioethics Core Curriculum» was published in Russian.
The UNESCO Bioethics Core Curriculum sets out to introduce the bioethical principlesof the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights to university students. Bioethics teaching has not been introduced in many universities in many countries. This UNESCO Bioethics Core Curriculum can provide an incentive to start introducing such teaching. Its contents are based on the principles adopted by UNESCO. It therefore does not impose a particular model or specific view of bioethics, but articulates ethical principles that are shared by scientific experts, policy-makers and health professionals from various countries with different cultural, historical and religious backgrounds.
The first pilot testing of the Bioethics Core Curriculum was conducted in the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in the first semester of the 2009/2010 academic year. The course was added to the curriculum of a number of departments in the University. In Russia bioethics is included in the standard program for biologists of different specializations and the new Bioethics Core Curriculum will be a good introduction to the foundations of the discipline. In February 2010, an academic testing of the core curriculum began at the International Sakharov Environmental University (ISEU) in Minsk, Belarus.
