Women's political participation in the Caucasus

The UNESCO Moscow Office supported a publication of the Analytical report on the research project «Women’s Political Participation in the Caucasus»

This publication is dedicated to the issue of gender equality and in particular to women’s political participation in the Caucasus. The main objectives of the research, which was done by means of a survey, were to determine the state of women's political participation and the perception of gender relations in the Caucasus region. The research covered all four countries of the Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Southern Federal District of Russia and showed that all studied countries had quite a low rate of women’s political participation although the causes for it vary from one country to another. The policy recommendations developed on the basis of the research provide advice on how to increase the political participation of women in the region.

Later this year the UNESCO Moscow Office will organize a round table for researchers, policymakers and NGO representatives to discuss the results of the research and disseminate its findings.
