Workshop on the book “HIV and AIDS: what can we do about this?” for teachers and librarians
On November 27-29 the M.I.Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature with the support of the Social and Human Sciences Sectors of the UNESCO Moscow Office and in cooperation with of The Charity Foundation “Tolerance Institute” organized a workshop for school teachers and children libraries workers of Moscow city and Moscow region.
The workshop objective is familiarize participants with the book “HIV and AIDS: WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?” by K. Spirikin and train them how to work with the book as a tool for HIV prevention education as well as education for human rights and fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination. The book “HIV and AIDS: WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?” is for children 10-13 years of age, their parents and tutors. It promotes the ideas of tolerance to HIV&AIDS related people and aims to raise awareness on HIV&AIDS and to prevent discrimination among teenagers and their parents. This book continues a series of books published earlier in 2007 during the children’s project led by a famous Russian writer Ludmila Ulitskaya “Other, Others, Otherwise”.
Within the workshop the teachers and librarians took part in the sessions on HIV and AIDS basic knowledge, tolerance awareness in modern culture and upbringing, and tolerance in literature for children and teenagers.
