Lest We Forget: The Triumph Over Slavery
Launch of the Exhibition, “Lest We Forget: The Triumph Over Slavery”, Nairobi, Kenya 8th May 2013; 6pm
Within the context of the Slave Route Project, and within the framework of the International Year to commemorate the fight against slavery in 2004, UNESCO developed a mobile exhibition, “Lest We Forget: The Triumph over Slavery”. The objective of the Exhibition is to contribute to breaking the silence surrounding slave trade and slavery and create awareness and a better understanding of the causes, forms of operation, issues and consequences of slavery in the world. The exhibition is at the disposal of member states and is currently being shown in various countries in Southern Africa.
In collaboration with Alliance Française, the Exhibition is being brought to Nairobi, Kenya in commemoration of the French National Day of remembrance of the slave trade, slavery and its abolition on 10th May. The Exhibition will be shown from 9-31st May, 2013 at Alliance Francaise, and will be launched on Wednesday, 8th May 6-8pm. The Launch event will include: the screening of a documentary; “Slave Routes: A Global Vision; a short discussion on “From Old to New Forms of Slavery: Lest we Forget".
