ICT in Education


Information and communications technology (ICT) has the potential to transform teaching and learning processes. In the Qingdao Declaration, signed by Ministers of Education at the International Conference on ICT and Post-2015 Education conference in Qingdao, People’s Republic of China (23 to 25 May 2015), it was stated that the full potential of ICT for education must be unleashed for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of Education 2030.

In East Africa, policy documents of many countries have each expressed the desire to transform their countries into Knowledge Societies where all citizens can create, access, utilize and share information and knowledge, enabling individuals, communities and people to achieve their full potential in promoting sustainable development and improving their quality of life. ICT in Education could be a useful tool to achieve this goal. The UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa supports Member States in integration ICT in education, including: policy support, Open Educational Resources (OER) development, teacher training, online teaching and learning platform and digital library establishment etc.
