Ms. Ochanda holds a Doctoral Degree in Anthropology (Gender & Development) and a Master’s Degree in International Studies. She started her career as a Language Teacher at the Kenya High School in Kenya and later worked as a Bilingual Services Officer (Translator/Interpreter) at the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA). In 1994, she joined UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology in Africa (ROSTA) as a Publications Assistant/Editor for the Office publications. In 2009 she worked with 31 universities in Africa to introduce mainstreaming of HIV and AIDS into faculties of Engineering and Science in Universities in Africa and produced a generic HIV and AIDS integration module for science and engineering faculties in the region. Ms. Ochanda is the Office’s Focal Point for Priority Gender Equality and the Science Sector Gender Focal Point for Africa. She is responsible for coordinating UNESCO STEM Education programme in the region and an active member of the Peer Support Group of the Regional United Nations Development Group for Eastern and Southern Africa. Ms. Ochanda Chairs the UN Gender Working Group for Kenya.

Jayakumar Ramasamy (Mr)

Mr. Jayakumar holds Doctoral degree in Hydrogeology (1993) carried out postdoctoral research on conjunctive use of surface and groundwater, remote sensing, GIS application in natural resources management. Started his career as a researcher and faculty member at Anna University, India, followed by hydrogeologist in a Ford Foundation and Consultant Hydrogeologist at WS Atkins International, Cambridge, UK and European Commission, New Delhi. From 1997 started as Regional Hydrologist in UNESCO New Delhi, subsequently transferred to Beijing (2004), Bangkok (2013) currently in UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa from June 2017. He is holding Guest Professorship at Institute of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Shijiazhuang, China; Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Hohhot, China; and University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Japan.

Mika Odido (Mr)

Mr Odido holds Master’s Degrees in Marine Ecology and in Physical Oceanography. He started his career as a researcher at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute in Mombasa, Kenya where he focused on Ocean Dynamics and Modeling of coastal processes. He has held several positions at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, including: Coordinator for the Ocean Data and Information Network for Africa, and head of the secretariat for the IOC’s regional committee for the Western Indian Ocean (2004-2008 at the UNESCO’s Regional Office for Science and Technology in Africa in Nairobi, Kenya); Coordinator for the regional programmes of IOC’s International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange programme - IODE (2009-2012, IODE Project Office, Oostende, Belgium); and IOC Coordinator in Africa (2012- present, UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa).

He is a founder member of the Western Indian Ocean Marine Sciences Association, member of the Steering Committee of the International Coastal and Marine Atlases Network, and a member of the Task Group for Data Sources for Sustainable Development of ICSU Committee for Data for Science and Technology.
