Applications open for the second UNESCO Training Course for Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserve Managers
The World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves (WNICBR) was established in 2012 with the aim of studying, implementing and disseminating island and coastal strategies to preserve biodiversity and heritage, promote sustainable development, and adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Island and coastal areas biosphere reserves around the world possess different natural, cultural, socio-economic and political characteristics, but also experience similar problems that can be addressed in a common way.
UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme, the Jeju Island Biosphere Reserve and the Menorca Biosphere Reserve are organizing a Second Training Course for Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserve Managers. The training course will take place on 13–17 October 2014 at the Jeju World Natural Heritage Centre, Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. Its purpose is to provide biosphere reserve managers with an opportunity to share experiences and build capacities for climate change adaption and achieving sustainable development.
Applications are open until 25 August 2014.
