Just Published: UNESCO Chairs in Relation to Biosphere Reserves
The UNESCO Chair – Biosphere Reserve model is a space for coordination and dialogue between the scientific agents and political leaders and for management of the BR, and aims to build bridges between the scientific arena and environmental management.
This model brings together two UNESCO programmes:
- The UNITWIN (University Twinning and Networking) and UNESCO Chairs Programme; Education sector
- The Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB); Natural Sciences sector.
This publication focuses on the first pilot model of this concept, implemented between the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development and Environmental Education of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve in 2002.
This first publication on the UNESCO Chair – Biosphere Reserve model was produced by the UNESCO Centre Basque Country (UNESCO Etxea), in collaboration with the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme (MAB) and the Basque government.
