Celebrated every 10 November, World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the important role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. The theme for 2018 is “Science, a Human Right”, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Safe drinking water and clean sanitation is indispensable for everyone to exercise the human right of having a decent standard of living. Additionally, the right to science combines a right of all to access and participate in science and a right of all to benefit from scientific advancements and its applications.

WWAP is committed to share the scientific knowledge of the World Water Development Report, since the applications of new scientific knowledge are believed to be essential for addressing major challenges such as climate change, decent jobs, sustainable energy and water accessibility.

One of the main objectives of WWAP is to equip water managers and key decision-makers, as well as various stakeholders, with the information, data, tools and skills on water use and management so that the water-related policies promote sustainable, inclusive and fair development at local, national, regional and global scales.

Science, technology and innovation can really contribute to making the world a better place.

Happy World Science Day for Peace and Development!
