Empowering youth to make change happen

From 12 to 14 February, 22 Italian students gathered at Villa Colombella (Perugia) to participate to the Winter School on “Water and Climate Change nexus: communicating with images” launched by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in collaboration with UNESCO WWAP. The aim of the project is to build capacities of Italian students on water resources, as a connecting element to achieve the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development.

The two-day workshop focused on the theme of the World Water Development Report 2020 on "Water and Climate Change", and the acquired knowledge is the basis of a video storyline. A professional video maker worked with the students to find the most appropriate technique to produce the video, which reflects the ideas of the youngest on the challenge posed by climate change on water resources. The video is projected in the Italian schools on occasion of World Water Day.

This incisive mean of awareness reasing is shared by UNESCO WWAP with all UNESCO Field Offices, to disseminate the powerful message of the Italian students on the current challenges the world is facing, and inspire other students to create their call for action on water and climate change.

UNESCO WWAP recognizes that empowering young women and men, will help them to work together to drive social innovation and change, participate fully in the development of their societies, eradicate poverty and inequality, and foster a culture of peace.
