Participation of women in science, technology development for water resources management, with support of UNESCO and national institutions

The National Institute of Water (INA) with the support of the National Office of Hydraulic Infrastructure and UNESCO WWAP is developing a diagnostic analysis of the current levels of participation of women in science, technology development and integrated water resource management in Argentina.

The purpose is to obtain a reference frame informing more effective future strategies for the water sector, and develop water policies that strengthen gender equality and the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The analysis elaborated by Argentina to measure the level of women’s involvement in science, technology development and integrated water resources applies the Gender Toolkit developed by UNESCO WWAP. In particular, the methodological approach uses indicators of Group 1, Gender-responsive water governance, and 10, Water education and training. The study will include indicators of Group 2, Safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) at a later stage.

The project started in March and will last 14 months.
