Preparation of the report on the UN Decade Water for Life: WWAP leads the process
WWAP has been designated by UN-Water for leading the preparation of the report on the UN Decade Water for Life, with the support of the two Decade programmes UNW-DPC (UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development) and UNW-DPAC (UN-Water Decade Programme on Advocacy and Communications).
The Decade Report will discuss success stories within the Decade, as well as look at how/ whether the goals of the Decade have been reached and report on the activities of the institutions that were intended to implement the Decade’s activities.
The foundation for the Decade for Action “Water for Life” 2005-2015 is based on the 2003 UNGA resolution which established it, and a follow-up made by the Secretary-General on 25 July 2005 which laid out the plan of action for the Decade and discussed its institutional set-up (contributions of Members and Partners, relationship to UN-Water, etc).
The challenge of the Decade is to focus attention on action-oriented policies, programs, and activities that ensure the long-term sustainable management of water resources, in terms of both quantity and quality, and include measures to improve sanitation. Achieving the goals of the 'Water for Life' Decade requires sustained commitment, cooperation and investment on the part of all stakeholders from 2005 to 2015 and beyond.
