The event, titled "Blue Economy, a global challenge", supported by WWAP, has been organized in the framework of the Week for Sustainable Development - Agenda 2030, promoted by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO.

The President of the CNF, Andrea Mascherin, opened the meeting, underlining: "The promotion of cultural initiatives and regulations to protect the environment is among the main objectives of the National Council of Forensic. The theme of the right to water for all is central to ensure a dignified life and to prevent migrations and wars".

Mr. Pecoraro Scanio, former Italian Ministry of Environment and now President of Univerde Foundation, recognized the centrality of water as shown by the WWDR, and of the actions focused on the protection of marine environments and coastal areas, "since plastics and microplastics reached an high level concentration even in remote places like the Arctic", he added.

The current Minister of the Environment of Italy, Sergio Costa, intervened at the event: "I have already deposited a "Save the Sea" law to the Council of Ministers" he said. The aim of this law is to give incentives to those who reduce packaging and promote the recovery and disposal of single-use plastic, focusing on the fishermen as allies in the protection of the sea".

WWAP Deputy Coordinator, Ms. Michela Miletto, concluded: "It is not a coincidence that the WWDR 2018 theme has been chosen for the translation of this authoritative Report in Italian, the first in this language, recognizing how even in Italy nature-based solutions for water can truly be an answer, concretely applicable and sustainable in the long term, to the growing demand for water and the increase of hydro-geological risks".

During the event, the organizers awarded the Coast Guard Corps with the "Green Pride for the Sea 2018" prize, for their significant contribution to the preservation of the marine and river ecosystems.
