From May 17-19, the Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) 2017 took place in Dresden, Germany, entitled ‘SDGs & Nexus Approach: Monitoring and Implementation’.

The Dresden Nexus Conference is a platform developed to advance the sustainable development agenda by bringing actors together who apply a Nexus Approach to resource management. Side by side, individuals from all sectors discuss current research and initiatives applying the Nexus Approach and the benefits for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The WWAP Coordinator Stefan Uhlenbrook delivered a seminar on the first day of the conference with as topic ‘Wastewater Reuse in Nexus Perspective: Environmental, Economic and Societal Opportunities’. The seminar explored the opportunities of using wastewater within multifunctional land-use systems for the production of food and energy crops. In addition, the session discusses how capacity development may aid the implementation of SDG 1, 2, 6, 7, 13 and 15. On the third day of the conference, Mr. Uhlenbrook delivered a keynote speech on behalf of WWAP on ‘How to accelerate achieving SDGs? The need for integrated analysis and synthesis across the 2030 Agenda’.
