WWAP at Universal Exposition 2015

Expo Milano 2015 is the Universal Exhibition that Milan, Italy, will host from May 1 to October 31, 2015.

EXPO represents a platform for the exchange of ideas and shared solutions to offer a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium.

WWAP participates to the Universal Exhibition with a series of  activities:

“The Blue Kiss” movie Award at Expo 2015

During the X National Table on River Basins Contracts (RBC) organized on October 15-16 at the Expo in Milan, the Awards Commission for the best RBC projects chaired by WWAP granted the movie “The Blue Kiss” with a special award.

This movie, also selected in the 2015 edition of the 'Water for Life' UN-Water Best Practices Award, calls for respecting water as a fundamentally important good. It approaches this issue, from a spiritual and holistic perspective. Water is considered as a living being.  The movie is a tale on water intertwined with the passage of the seasons, and strictly linked with the cycle of human life and with the life of communities. Set in the Italian southern region of Irpinia, whose springs and rivers make it one of the most productive hydrological areas, this delicate and romantic film communicates poetry and emotion, and is suitable for education purposes to all audiences. The film’s narrative is complemented by interviews with world-famous spiritualists and scientists, including Masaru Emoto, Angaangaq Angakkorsuag , Bob Randall, Maka'Ala Yates, Sobonfu Somé and Lynne McTaggart.’

Expo after Expo, the legacy of Milan 2015

The “Expo of Ideas”, organized in Milan, on October 10th, is a round table discussion to focus and share issues and contents of the Chart of Milan, the protocol on food security and related matters that constitutes the long lasting legacy of Expo 2015.

WWAP Deputy Coordinator, Ms. Michela Miletto, coordinated the roundtable on water issue, entitled “Until the last drop”. Watch the interview to Ms. Miletto

The Charter will be handed over to UN Secretary General during his visit at Expo Milano, as a contribution of the Universal Expo to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) discussions.

The Water Rooms: a journey to discover, understand and change

“The Water Rooms” is an outreach project led by WWAP to be presented at EXPO 2015 - the Universal Exposition – and consists of a visionary and inspirational video-itinerary of five sequential “rooms” that will trigger interest and encourage learning about water resources and their sustainable management. Each “room” offers a fun and emotional experience inviting the viewer to reflect on the dynamics affecting the resource and the actors managing it.

The exhibition was launched at EXPO Milan, in the Auditorium of the Italian Pavilion on September 21st.

Expo for children

WWAP contributed to the efforts of UNESCO Venice for the realization of a treasure hunting game to be implemented during EXPO 2015. During this game, children and their families may follow several mapped itineraries throughout Venice, in search for the “blue gold” (water). Doing so they encounter funny cartoons and actors and meanwhile learn on how water is integrated into our every-day life through a multifold of aspects. This educating experience focuses on the value of water and aims to increase awareness amongst kids on sustainability issues.
In addition to this WWAP has provided input to develop a parlour game on Water. The theme of this card game is in line with the treasure hunt, featuring interesting questions and funny facts on water which may be played at home.
