Launch of the World Water Development Report, Water for a Sustainable World

The planet is facing a 40% shortfall in water supply by 2030, unless we dramatically improve the management of this precious resource.

This is the unavoidable conclusion reached in the 2015 United Nations World Water Development Report, “Water for a Sustainable World”, launched on 20 March in New Delhi (India), in time for World Water Day (22 March).

As it is now tradition, the Report is launched during the main celebrations of World Water Day, that this year has been organized in New Delhi, India, on 20 March 2015 by UN-Water and UNDP; the theme for World Water Day in 2015 is Water and Sustainable Development

The World Water Development Report 2015, "Water for a Sustainable World" has been presented by the UNESCO Assistant Director General for Science, Ms. Flavia Schlegel.

The Report is available online for download.

The agenda included:

• Mr. M. Gopalakrishnan, Secretary General Honoraire, ICID

• Flavia Schlegel, Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences, UNESCO

• Michela Miletto, Acting Coordinator, UN World Water Assessment Programme

• Lidia Szpyrkowicz, Scientific Attachè, Italian Embassy

After the launch, a session of questions and answers has been organized; experts on water resources participated to reply to the audience comments.
