Regional Launch in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Addis Ababa Liaison Office in partnership with the Regional Eco-Hydrology Center and the Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation & Electricity launched the 2017 UN World Water Development Report and celebrated World Water Day on 28th of March, 2017, in the Washington Hotel in Addis Ababa.

The event was opened by Her Excellency, State Minister, Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation & Electricity, and words of welcome were given by UNESCO. Three presentations were given by the Regional Eco-Hydrology Center on their pilot studies into eco-hydrological environmental management in Ethiopia, and UNESCO presented on ‘UNESCO Green Academies’, a Pan-African new initiative aiming at climate resilience, including three water management aspects, such as rain-water utilization, grey-water recycling, and black-water-to-biogas in schools, as well as a power point on the 2017 World Water Development Report: Waste water – the untapped resource.

The event was witnessed by representatives of 15 Embassies in Addis Ababa, UN agencies, as well as faith-based groups, such as the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development Arm EOC-DICAC, as well as the Ethiopian Muslim Development Agency EMDA. Inviting such a large number of important visitors was only possible thanks to the new Partnership Unit at UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office, and their intensive outreach program, that includes Embassies, UN agencies, African Union and other regional bodies, NGOs and the foundations and private sector.
