UN Decade of Ocean Science: Call for nominations to the Executive Planning Group

In the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) of which it is leading the preparatory process, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is calling for nominations of experts for the Decade’s Executive Planning Group (EPG).

The EPG will be an expert group composed of 16 to 20 members, serving in their personal capacity for the full term of the Preparatory Phase (2018-2020). The EPG will meet at least twice during its term (once during each of the IOC intersessional periods: 2018-19 and 2019-20). Regular and shorter remote meetings in-between are also anticipated to ensure the follow-up on the EPG’s actions.

The experts may attend some of the planned regional and global workshops that will take place in 2019 and early 2020 as part of the Decade design process.

You will find more detailed information in the nomination form which contains the EPG Terms of Reference and other relevant information for the submission on: http://oceandecade.org

The Secretariat will accept:

(i) Self-nominations from individual experts;

(ii) Expert nominations submitted by national coordination mechanisms of IOC/UNESCO/other UN bodies;

(iii) Expert nominations from relevant UN bodies, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other institutional stakeholders.

EPG experts will be selected though a comprehensive and transparent selection process led by the IOC elected Officers (representing the five IOC regional geographical groups) who will identify the best candidates with due consideration to gender, age, regional balance, and expertise/experience.

The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 5 September 2018 (midnight CET).
