iPod Touch giveaway at Engineering for Sustainable Development side-event
As part of the Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development during the week preceding the Rio+20 meeting, UNESCO and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will host a side-event on “Engineering for Sustainable Development”. The objective is to increase public awareness regarding the need for engineering to achieve sustainable development goals, highlight the role of organizations, such as UNESCO and IEEE, to advance engineering as solution, and to encourage student excitement about engineering and how they can have a significant impact on their future.
Gretchen Kalonji, Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences in UNESCO, and Mr. Gordon Day, IEEE President, will highlight the role of their respective organizations to advocate for engineering as a key factor in sustainable development. These presentations will be supplemented by a successful West African case study that demonstrates engineering being used to achieve sustainable development goals and encourages students to make a significant impact on their world through the pursuit of engineering studies.
To appeal to the youth, at the conclusion of the event there will be time for discussion as well as an iPod Touch giveaway!
