Training and Capacity Building
In addition to capacity building actions that form an integral part of programmes in such fields as harmful algal blooms, other group training activities are organized at national, regional and interregional levels with the technical and financial support of UNESCO. Examples include :
- First IOC Leadership Development Workshop for Heads of Marine Institutes in the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions. Mona Campus, University of the West Indies, Kinston, Jamaica. 12-15 September 2006. Topics addressed included initiating and leading change and identifying the region's most important issues in the sustainable management of oceans and protection of coastal zones.
- Training Workshop on Trans-Boundary-Diagnostic-Analysis of Coastal and Marine Environmental Issues in the ROPME Sea Area. Manama, Bahrain. 23-27 June 2007. Organized and funded by the Public Commission for Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife of the Kingdom of Bahrain, UNESCO-Doha, UNESCO-Tehran, and UNESCO-Iraq, UNEP/ROWA, and UNEP/ROPME.
