Regional Conference Report: Addressing Literacy Challenges in East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Building Partnerships and Promoting Innovative Approaches
The high-level regional conference co-hosted by UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China was held in Beijing from 31 July to 1 August 2008. Roundtables and panels addressed various challenges in the region, such as the role of literacy for health or economic self-sufficiency as well as literacy policies and strategies or programme delivery. The conference was attended by various (deputy) education ministers from SIDS, namely Singapore, Samoa, Timor-Leste, Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga and Fiji.
