Irina Bokova’s official visit to Barbados
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will be on an official visit to Barbados from 13 to 16 June. She is expected to meet the Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxine Pamela Ometa McClean, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones, Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth Stephen Lashley, Minister of Environment and Drainage Dennis Lowe and Governor General Elliot Belgrave. Irina Bokova will also meet the UN Resident Representative.
During her official visit, the Director-General will visit Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, a World Heritage site inscribed on List in 2011. She will also visit the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), where she is expected to meet Principal Sir Hilary Beckles and visit the Federal Archives and the Nita Barrow Collection, both inscribed in 2009 on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. She will also attend faculty presentations on UNESCO related programmes.
The Director-General also plans on visiting the Barbados Museum, where she will attend a lecture on “Crop Over” by Marcia Burrowes, a lecturer in History and Cultural Studies from UWI.
