Pacific Regional Cultural Statistics Meeting

Collaboration between Cultural Experts and National Statistics Offices

First Pacific Reional Cultural Statisics Meeting was held from 26 to 28 May 2011 at the Pacific Islands Form Secretariat in Suva, Fiji.  It was jointly organized by SPC, UIS in Montreal and UNESCO in Apia.  The Meeting provided an opportunity for cutural experts and statistics experts from Cook Islands, Fiji, FSM, Palau, PNG, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu to meet at the same place to learn the UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistic and discuss its adaptation to the Pacific region.  Two special presentaions on the Maori Project within the NZ Framework for Cultural Statistics and Well-being Indicator Project in Vanuatu with the aims of capturing the contribution of the informal sector to the sustainable and human development of Vanuatu were also made at the Meeting.   The Meetng discussed a series of recommndations both at country and regional levels for the development of cultural statistics in the Pacific.
