European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) Films

Engineering is a key driver for current and future sustainable development. It is imperative that there are sufficient numbers of engineers to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To this end, UNESCO and the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) have partnered to create inspirational videos that show how studying Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) subjects can lead to fascinating and rewarding careers in the chemicals industry. It encourages students to study science giving them the opportunity to work on innovative solutions to address evolving global challenges.

Both these films are available in multiple languages and are designed for classroom use. The EPCA has developed lesson plans for each film outlining how to use the films to foster interest in the STEM fields.

Chemistry: All About You

In 2011, the EPCA, in partnership with UNESCO, made a film, Chemistry: All About You, which highlighted how chemical innovations are found in numerous everyday goods and processes. The products and issues featured include: consumer packaging, biomedical goods, water sanitation, sustainable development, transportation and global communication infrastructure, among others.

Science: Where Can It Take You?

Given the success of Chemistry: All About You, the EPCA, in partnership with UNESCO, decided to make a second film highlighting the broad range of careers available in the science and engineering sectors. This film, Science: Where Can It Take You, emphasizes the importance of recognizing your interests, pursuing them in secondary and tertiary education and developing them into an exciting and fascinating career in one of the STEM fields.
