A regional centre for science park development launched in Iran
21 May - The Regional Centre for the Development of Science Parks and Technology Incubators was launched in the Iranian city of Isfahan on 13 May, in the presence of Lidia Brito, Director of the Division of Science Policy and Sustainable Development at UNESCO, and programme specialist Yoslan Nur. The centre was approved by UNESCO’s General Conference last October, prior to the signing of a formal agreement on 17 December by UNESCO and the Government of Iran at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The centre will function under the auspices of UNESCO as a category 2 centre. It will organize workshops and other activities to help countries in the region develop their own parks and incubators. It will also provide policy advice, facilitate the exchange of experience and best practices, and conduct research and problem-solving in science park and technology incubator development. Iran has 21 science and technology parks and more than 60 technology incubators.
