Biosphere Reserves as Model Regions for a Green Economy, a brochure published by Germany
Published by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the brochure ‘Biosphere Reserves. Model Regions for a Green Economy’ presents UNESCO Biosphere Reserves as an ideal instrument for German development cooperation to support partner countries in their efforts towards conservation and sustainable use of their own biodiversity.
A central concern of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany is to capture the economic value of the diverse services that nature provides to humankind. This makes GIZ biosphere reserves all the more important: under the auspices of the United Nations, they offer excellent opportunities to test and design ‘green’ systems of production and consumption, which are geared towards socially and environmentally sustainable development.
This brochure illustrates the work of German development cooperation in biosphere reserves and showcases exemplary projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
