SAGA training workshop, Argentina

With the aim of identifying and describing the main problems, obstacles and challenges to achieve gender equality and therefore promote a series of new Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policies and instruments, Argentina, through the Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Productiva, will participate as a pilot country in the SAGA project.

The first meeting of the national inter-institutional team was held on 5 December. The event was attend by the Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, the Secretary of Scientific and Technological Articulation, Agustín Campero, and by delegates from more than 20 leading Argentinian institutions relevant to the promotion of gender equality, STI policies and statistics.

During the event, the SAGA STI GOL and the SAGA Toolkit were presented and discussed in detail and working groups were created in order to adapt and apply the SAGA tools. Furthermore, a country report will be produced to highlight the challenges encountered, the strategies adopted to improve STI policies and the outcomes of implementing the SAGA instruments.

The setting up of the national inter-institutional committee is a clear sign that the importance of gender equality in STEM is now on the national agenda.
