On February 1st 2017, the Ministère de l’économie, de la science et de l’innovation (MESI) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) hosted a SAGA workshop in Montreal, Canada. The event was attended by approximately 30 participants from nearly 15 organisations such as Quebec Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, Ministère des Transports, de la Mobilité durable et de l’électrification des transport, L’Oréal Canada, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, professional associations, representatives of the academic community such as the dean of graduate and postdoctoral studies and researchers in the field of science and engineering.

During the event, SAGA’s objectives and tools to promote women in STEM were presented to the participants, who demonstrated of their interest in implementing the project in Quebec. The introduction to the project was followed by an open discussion moderated by Dr Maryse Lassonde, scientist direct of FRQ, and Nancy-Sonya Trudelle, Director at the Direction du développement de la relève at MESI.

The exchange between all workshop participants was useful in laying the foundation for the implementation of the project in Quebec. It was agreed that a collaboration between the FRQ, the MESI and other key stakeholders, and the nomination of team leaders, one for each of the seven main objectives of the STI Gender Objective List and  based on their expertise and personal interests, would be made official in the weeks to come.
