UNESCO stresses capacity-building at UN workshop on clean technologies
At the workshop on the Development, Transfer and Dissemination of Clean and Environmentally Sound Technologies organized at UN Headquarters in New York on 30 May 2013, the Director of UNESCO’s Division for Science Policy and Capacity Building presented UNESCO’s work related to capacity-building in science, technology and innovation.
Lidia Brito highlighted the importance of investing in human capital through scientific collaboration, networking, research and education.
The aim of the workshop was to identify the most promising opportunities offered by existing international institutions and programmes to facilitate research and cooperation for development, as well as the more rapid and widespread transfer and diffusion of environmentally sound technologies.
The workshop came in response to the decision of the UN General Assembly ‘to hold a series of four one-day workshops on the development, transfer and dissemination of clean and environmentally sound technologies and the connection between clean and environmentally sound technologies and sustainable development’ (A/RES/67/203, paragraph 8).
