UNESCO helps governments and policy-makers make informed decisions on biodiversity issues by collecting, peer-reviewing and 'packaging' scientific information in the form of sub-global scientific assessments and policy briefs.
UNESCO also co-sponsors global assessments that identify policy responses in different areas and also contributes in intergovernmental mechanisms and initiatives that strengthen the science-policy interface, namely the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
