Eighth Session of the IPRED

The year 2015 is full of milestone conferences toward a new future, the Sendai UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR), the third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York and COP-21 UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris in December 2015.

The first milestone, 3rd UN WCDRR was held from 14th to 18th March in Sendai Japan and IPRED annual meeting was scheduled just before the WCDRR in Japan so that IPRED can organize an event at WCDRR.

The 8th IPRED annual meeting was held from 10th to 11th March 2015 in Tokyo, Japan hosted by International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (IISEE), Japan and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

The main topics of information exchange are 1) Seismic Code and Seismic Evaluation, 2) Lessons from Disaster, Non-Engineered Construction and Role of National Institute and 3) Developing Hazard map. Members and secretariat also discussed and revised the IPRED action plan in order for IPRED to become more powerful and influential network on seismology and seismic.

After the IPRED annual meeting, UNESCO co-organized seminar “Earthquake Disaster Management in the World: IPRED activities” on 13 March, 2015 in Tokyo at the conference venue of National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. (Seminar report in English - summary, full; Japanese - summary, full)

UNESCO also co-organized public forum “Disaster management Policies  -Preparedness against Large Tsunamis and Earthquakes etc.” at 3rd WCDRR on 14th March 2015.
