New Exhibitions Present Pioneer Actions Undertaken by SIDS in the Face of Climate Change
A new temporary exhibit on islands will open on 15 April 2011, at Nausicaa, Centre National de la Mer in Boulogne-sur-Mer and at the Mare Nostrum aquarium in Montpellier. Both venues will show the exhibit during the next three years.
UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) is involved in this project within the framework of its action for sustainable development in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), following the 2004 declaration through which IOC pledged to raise public awareness on the importance of oceans and coastal zones for SIDS’ sustainable development.
The exhibits focus on the pioneer actions implemented by SIDS in the face of Climate Change and rising sea levels. A multimedia project including documentaries, a 3D film and documentation will be associated to the exhibit.
The project was created in partnership with the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS).
