25.08.2017 - UNESCO Office in New Delhi

Consultation Meeting of the National Commissions of UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office

UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office and the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, are jointly hosting the consultation meeting of the National Commissions of the UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office, from 28th-30th August 2017, at UNESCO House, New Delhi. The consultation seeks to enhance the cooperation between the New Delhi Office and the UNESCO National Commissions in the cluster Member States, namely, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Significant changes have taken place since the 2009 meeting such as staff and institutional changes within the National Commissions and in UNESCO offices in the Cluster. There are changes in the geopolitical situation in the region; the technological, economic, social and cultural trends in the region; the transition from MDGs to SDGs; the financial situation within UNESCO and the UN system at large.  All these and several other significant changes in South Asia and at the global level require a collective assessment and possibly a recalibration of cooperation between UNESCO offices in the Cluster and the National Commissions.

The expected outcomes for the meeting are:

  • Strategies proposed and discussed for strengthening capacities and collaboration between UNESCO and National Commissions in South Asia and their partners.
  • Effective ways identified for the implementation of UNESCO 39C/5 work plans in line with SDGs and national priorities.
  • Recommendations adopted on strengthened collaboration between NATCOMs and UNESCO field offices.
