Some 40 ministers and participants from over 100 countries will participate in the Third International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), that opens on 14 May in Shanghai, in the presence of UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova.

"Too few young people and adults are gaining the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need to find decent employment in today's rapidly changing job market, where the capacity to learn and adapt is essential. This is a top political concern everywhere and it calls for concerted policies," states Irina Bokova in the Congress program. The Congress will make proposals to transform and expand TVET around the world.

In Shanghai, Irina Bokova will also sign an agreement on the establishment of an International Research and Training Center for Science and Technology Strategy (Category 2). She will visit World Heritage Sites in Suzhou, where the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research is based, and Hangzhou, where she will give the Mayor a certificate nominating it as a UNESCO City of Crafts and Folk Art.

On the higher education circuit, she will receive the title of Honorary Professor from Tongji University in Shanghai and meet with officials at Hainan University, where she is Honorary Chairperson of the University Council.
